Questions
Drone filming: common questions
- Do I need a permit to film with a drone in Dubai?
- Yes. Every commercial drone shoot in Dubai needs approvals from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the Dubai Film and TV Commission and the Ministry of Defence, among others. We apply for all of them for you. Read our permit guide.
- What happens if you fly a drone without a permit in the UAE?
- Unauthorised drone flights are illegal in the UAE and can lead to heavy fines and legal action. Footage shot without approval also puts your client and production at risk.
- How far ahead should I book a drone shoot?
- Permits typically take 14 to 16 working days in Dubai and 18 to 20 in Abu Dhabi, so contact us at least three to four weeks before your shoot date. Government projects and major events can sometimes be expedited.
- Do you provide the camera operator as well as the pilot?
- Yes. For cinema work we fly with a pilot and a separate camera operator, so the pilot can focus on safety while the operator frames the shot.
- Which cities do you cover?
- We have offices and flight teams in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, and film across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
